(WOTA)
About |
WOTA was created through the vision and efforts of a group of dedicated hams that desired to provide the amateur community with a means of assistance in making that elusive, needed contact to complete the requirements for an award or certificate. Through an online brainstorming session, the idea of a "database" that a ham could notify that he was on the air, and that was accessible by other hams was presented. Many hams responded, thinking this was an excellent idea, and WOTA was born. There was so much activity regarding the possibilities of this database that a special reflector was established for the interested hams to communicate. Just think, a ham operating anywhere in the world needing a specific country could "look" into the database and see if an operator from that country was operating, and the frequency he was operating on. Need a state, check the database, see if that elusive North Dakota station was operating. The possibilities are virtually endless. WOTA has evolved, with many changes being suggested by the beta testers, and implemented by the developers. This website will also go through many stages of evolution. At the beginning, a primitive site, with basic information, as it matures, there will be pages that will allow the users to query the database online to see if the entity they are seeking is "on the air". Eventually, the goal is to have a world map display, showing the locations of the operators world-wide that have entered their information into the database, and are on the air seeking contacts.
